You were probably concerned about when nap time was at 5 but Lily Adeleye has very different concerns. At the tender age of 5, this young entrepreneur just became the youngest CEO to ever have their products placed in Target for retail. Lily’s company is Lily Frilly, a brand for, by and focused on little girls. In a world where young Black girls are so often robbed of their precious innocence and the space to be girls, this brand is pushing back on the negative and instilling in young girls confidence and pride.
Lily Frilly caters to young girls and seeks to instill strength and confidence. The company offers dresses, lunchboxes, bows and backpacks — all the essentials every little girl needs. Lily’s entrepreneurial prowess was certainly a learned behavior and she has a great role model to lean on — her mother. Lily is the daughter of Courtney Adeleye, a super entrepreneur, herself. Courtney is the Founder and CEO of The Mane Choice, a haircare company that has shaken up the industry over the past few years. The Mane Choice’s products can be found in Target also, making this a true family affair.
Black girls are bosses, period. It matters not what age they are, they should be taught to love themselves, the skin they’re in and embrace their natural intelligence — with no apologies. Courtney Adeleye, thankfully, is setting a great foundation for Lily to build on and teaching life lessons along the way that will enable her to achieve beyond what her 5-year-old mind can even dream of.
