After The Convention, Now It’s Time For Action

The 2019 We Buy Black Convention was utterly amazing — if you weren’t there, I’m judging (a little bit). But We Buy Black was never intended to be an entity focused on hype or events but real, concrete action. At stake is what our future will look like for the “Next 400 Years,” after marking the 400th anniversary of Africans arriving at Jamestown, Virginia. The Convention was all about what’s next and now that it’s over, let’s talk about what you are doing next, in your community.

What is your next move? The first step is for you to remove the limitations of what you think is possible. The We Buy Black Convention was absolutely an amazing place to remove limitations. To see so many amazing Black people changing their world makes you believe that another world is possible. Want to open a grocery store in your community? It’s possible. Want to start a marketing agency and monetize your skills? Definitely possible. Are you interested in starting a new service to help our community? It’s absolutely possible and the sooner you accept that, the sooner your community will benefit.

Each of the experts that came to the Convention gave us marching orders — from breaking into the film industry to helping our youth start their own enterprises — came to the Convention with the expectation that they were speaking to an audience who was interested in doing more than just talk and they were right. Now that we’ve adjusted our expectations and beliefs about about what is truly possible, it’s time to put together a clear action plan. The Convention just ended and now the question is, where will you be and what will you have created by next year’s We Buy Black Convention? The next 400 years, as a people, will be shaped by our actions today — that was the whole point of the Convention.

Before you go to sleep tonight your first assignment is to set a goal for next year’s Convention. What will be true in one year from now? What will exist then, which doesn’t exist in the present? There was a wealth of information given at this year’s Convention and hopefully you didn’t miss any of it. Check out the experts that were there this year and learn from them. When you wake up tomorrow, however, you need to have a well defined goal for next year and by all means, make sure you attend the Convention.
