We Buy Black and SheaMoisture have teamed up to bring the culture the Black Business Relief Fund. After reviewing 3588 applications carefully, we have settled on 20 awardees, each awarded a $5,000 grant. The 11th business is Perfect Score Athletic Training Center, an excellent business that is totally worthy of this honor.

Perfect Score is a small gymnastics studio in Southern California that serves children who ordinarily aren’t exposed to the sport. Perfect Score has both gymnastics and tumbling classes for kids of all ages– both boys and girls– at prices families can afford: Perfect Score charges less than half the monthly rates of its competitors. As the only gym in California with an all-Black competitive gymnastics team, Perfect Score is making history and bringing a lot of color into a sport where the minority is never the majority. Perfect Score strives to build children up, both physically and emotionally. Perfect Score is a small gym but its impact on the community is quite large.

Gymnastics requires an extreme amount of discipline, as a sport. It requires mind and body control, which Perfect Score uses to teach its young athletes lessons, outside of the gym. The company is consumed not only with developing world class athletes but leaders. The confidence and respect Perfect Score gymnasts develop from the sport transfers to the classroom and the leadership skills they learn are evident in the community, as well. A Black woman owned company, Perfect Score is connected to the struggles of young Black girls in a unique way and does everything possible to serve them. Indeed, the business discounts their already discounted tuition so that everyone has access. Perfect Score is much more than sport and that’s why the company’s survival is not a game.

COVID-19 has halted Perfect Score’s operations. Revenues are virtually non-existent and the company simply isn’t able to meet basic expenses, including rent. The young athletes who rely on Perfect Score see it as a safe haven and positive influence, even outside of school. To lose this precious community gym would be devastating and that’s why this $5,000 grant from We Buy Black and SheaMoisture is so critical. Perfect Score is committed to developing young athletes and leaders and that’s why this company will endure.
