Business Grants for Black Entrepreneurs — 2021

Starting a small business takes a lot of time, energy, and most importantly, money. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has also made it worse for Black-owned business owners to support themselves. Luckily, there are resources and grants available that Black entrepreneurs can apply for today. 

FedEx Small Business Grant Contest

Applicants must be at least 18 years old. There can be no more than 99 employees on the payroll and applicants must live in the United States. Third place winners receive $15,000. Second place winners receive $30,000. The Grand Prize winners receive $50,000.

Coalition to Back Black Businesses Fund

The novel coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc on small Black-owned businesses. In order to combat this crisis, The Coalition to Back Black Business is offering $5,000 to at least 300 small business owners. Applicants must have between 3-20 employees and been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The application opens September 2021.

Black Girl Ventures 

Black Girl Ventures helps to fund and scale businesses owned by people who identify as Black/Brown women. They pledge to accelerate 100,000 Black and Brown women-identifying entrepreneurs.

Grants.gov

Grants.gov is a database that connects entrepreneurs to a plethora of grants available to them. There are hundreds of grants on the site that are catered to Black entrepreneurs.

HUBzone Program 

This program is run by the U.S. Small Business Administration and seeks to help businesses in historically underserved business zones. It is their goal to reward at least 3% of federal contract dollars to members of the program.
