Angela C. Styles has accomplished a lot in her career, including styling the hair of celebrities like Rihanna, Ciara and Eve, but this may be her most important project yet. She recently released the first book in her children’s book series, Pretty Curls Club, which is intended to uplift and educate children about textured hair. Illustrated by JQ Sirls, “Hair” teaches young people to love their locks. “It’s important for our next generation to understand that their hair is an integral part of who they are. It’s going to thrive off love and understanding the same way we do,” Styles said. “Once this fact is understood, their hair will accentuate their beauty and overall love of self.” “Hair” follows the story of Keely, a young girl who hates her curly hair because she wants to fit in with her classmates who have straight hair. After her mom tells her about her natural hair’s super powers, it changes Keely’s perspective and makes her realize that she should love and take care of her curly tresses. Upcoming books in the Pretty Curls Club series will tackle other hair issues like wash day, picture day and “when dad does it.” The series was created to instill confidence and help children appreciate their hair texture from a young age. Styles, a Chicago native, was a series regular on L.A. Hair. When she isn’t styling her celebrity clients, she runs a salon in West Hollywood.
