#WeBuyBlack28 — Day 10

The Visionary

Chantel Calloway realized that she had hit rock bottom after getting arrested for robbing a Metro Atlanta bank in 2010. While sitting in a jail cell, she made herself a promise. She said that she would get out, change her life and pursue her dreams. Five years later, her dreams turned into reality when she launched her hip-hop inspired board game Rhyme Antics.

The Vision – Rhyme Antics

Rhyme Antics is described as “Catch Phrase meets karaoke” and involves freestyling to a beat provided by the game’s accompanying mobile app. Players engage in a battle of words to test their vocabulary and speed. Calloway, a Boston native, launched Rhyme Antics through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign. It exceeded its $10,000 goal by pre-selling more than 300 copies in 30 days. “Rhyme Antics is my labor of love,” she said. “It’s a game changer, because it promotes literacy while paying homage to the roots of hip hop artistry. It adds a tremendous amount of value back to our culture and community. We are creating a unique experience for players to laugh and learn at the same time, and what could be better than that?” Calloway said that her mission is to help improve literacy nationwide and to inspire people to “dream big” regardless of their past circumstances.
