According to Dungeon Forward founder, David Castro, The purpose of the collection is to represent HBCUs and enhance the sense of pride in these universities.
“Through headwear, we intend to call attention to stories of triumph and to infuse poetic inspiration into our crowns,” Castro said. “HBCUs cultivate cultural and personal pride in a country where the opposite intent is etched in history.”
Castro founded the headwear company in 2008 while he was still in college out of a pure desire to create. The brand started with just three pieces and instantly sold out. This inspired Castro to create innovative headwear that told a story – stories that represent Black culture, music, art, and streetwear.
“We imagine the collection enhancing the sense of pride for these institutions. In addition, we want to encourage people to be fans of HBCUs like they are fans of the universities that garner the most televised attention,” Castro expressed.
