The Black independent crime drama series For a Fee is binge-worthy for several reasons. It’s gritty, suspenseful, and has a good plot. The show is based in Las Vegas, Nevada, and centers around a group of people connected by street life. The show’s director describes it as “an epic drama that chronicles the ins and outs of everyday street life. This is where the end of the bright light and the dark gutter begins.”
The name of the show is based on the well-known phrase that “nothing in life is free, there is always a fee,” the director said.
Season one was filmed in 2016 and released the following year. The creator’s goal for the first season was to make the show easy to watch to pique interest, so he made 10, 10-15 minute-long episodes. Season one went viral on Facebook and YouTube, garnering millions of views.
The show’s creator made For a Fee because he realized that most people had no understanding of Las Vegas outside downtown and the Strip. He wanted to show a different side of the city that’s full of culture and history.
“We are so much more than the Strip,” the creator expressed, referring to Las Vegas’ infamous stretch of street that features casinos, hotels, and shops.
After season one, the overwhelming demand for the second season led the creator to immediately start writing the second season. However, in late 2019, the pandemic slowed down production. But in late 2020, he and the cast were able to film the second season.
Season two of For a Fee is now available on Amazon Prime for only $1.99 an episode. The production company has partnered with Indie Rights for distribution, so expect to see the show on more platforms soon.
