Kinks and Konversation is an online apparel, accessories, and cosmetics store that centers Black people in their products.
Kinks and Konversation empowers their customers with products that hold significance in Black culture, including custom name jewelry, including anklets, necklaces, and rings. The stainless steel jewelry is tarnish-free and comes in rose gold, gold, and silver.
Apart from the jewelry, Kinks and Konversation also sells t-shirts and cosmetics, like their Brightening Lemon Lip Scrub.
The brand was founded two years ago by Philadelphia natives and best friends Sheena and Jazmine. Since grade school, the two have known each other and have always bonded over similarities, interests, and even differences. Both young women are entrepreneurs focused on creating financial independence. Jazmine is a licensed realtor and child behavior specialist, and Sheena, a nurse, has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
The pair have always wanted to start a business together but could never decide what to do until the surge of COVID-19. During the pandemic, Sheena posted a video encouraging people to stay home that went viral. With that came the first product on their website: masks with a message. Soon, they decided to design t-shirts that, like the mask, carried a message, whether it was about Black lives or staying safe during the pandemic.
The brand’s name comes from the pair’s love of their natural hair (Kinks) and their love of good conversation and engagement (Konversation).
“This brand is truly us! We design and sell items that we wear and enjoy wearing, whether it’s a comfy shirt or a bomb necklace,” Sheena explained.
