When you come to the We Buy Black Convention this weekend you’ll be blessed by the sound and presence of Ten. Music is mainly commercial now — it’s hard to distinguish artist A from B. Ten is different. Her sound is soulful and her voice literally brings people to tears — routinely. This Chicago-bred artist is kicking off her own national tour and bringing a unique experience to each city — lifestyle and music. She will be hosting the “United We Band” concert at the We Buy Convention and debuting her new single there. You need to get hip to Ten.
Ten’s family was often full of strife but she saw very early that music literally shifted their mood. When the sounds of James Brown, Muddy Waters and others would play, the anger would cease, play began and there was joy. Ten wanted to live in that joy and peace forever. But peace wasn’t always assured for her, personally. Later in life she found herself in an abusive relationship, one which was almost fatal. Art comes from somewhere — joy, pain, glee or sadness can all produce beauty and that’s why Ten’s music is full of healing.
Most independent artists simply don’t have the funds to go on a tour. Ten, however, is teaming up with RoadNation to do her own independent tour, financing it through crowdfunding. This tour isn’t simply music. At each stop Ten will host meet and greets at local vegan restaurants. Veganism changed her life to one of health living, vibrancy and energy. She wants to share that experience with her fans. As she became more fit and healthy through veganism, Ten’s fashion also shifted. She noticed that she could now fit into vintage clothing, often from thrift stores. Ten will be sharing her fashion and thrifting prowess on tour, also. As a survivor of abuse, she is also determined to sit with women and share healing mutually, as sisters on each stop.
The “Ten” experience will bless this entire country. We, however, get to experience her first at the We Buy Black Convention this week. Last year she headlined the “United We Band” concert at the Convention alongside Bilal. That experienced has helped launch her profile nationally and this year she will be back with us.
