Killmonger lives! Or, Michael B. Jordan that is—because he is really “killing it” in the Hollywood game at this moment in time! This mogul in the making just announced that his film company Outlier Society will proudly uphold the “Inclusion Rider.” In his Instagram post on Wednesday, Jordan stated, “In support of the women & men who are leading this fight, I will be adopting the Inclusion Rider for all projects produced by my company Outlier Society. I’ve been privileged to work with powerful woman & persons of color throughout my career & it’s Outlier’s mission to continue to create for talented individuals going forward…” For those of you who are unfamiliar with this term, you are not alone. Google experienced a spike in searches after Sunday’s Oscars, when Frances McDormand closed her speech saying “I have two words to leave with you tonight, ladies and gentlemen: Inclusion Rider.” An Inclusion Rider is a stipulation that guarantees an actor the right to demand a certain level of diversity in a project. The idea was first proposed by USC Communication Professor Dr. Stacey Smith in 2014 when she wrote an op-ed in The Hollywood Reporter,” introducing the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative. The article called for more inclusion of women and minorities in the film process, that would thus translate on screen. Dr. Smith stands by Michael B Jordan, telling Huff Post “We are thrilled that Michael B. But, there has been noticeably a lack of solidarity, from the less “melanated.” This includes Netflix president Reed Hastings. When asked if he would incorporate Inclusion Riders into his deals, he responded, “we’re not so big on doing everything through agreements.
