After growing frustrated with pricey products that didn’t deliver, Sharnae Williams decided to whip up her own hair formulas. Like many Black women, Williams decided to stop relaxing her hair when she began experiencing significant thinning. She dove head-first into her natural journey but quickly discovered that the products available just didn’t give her the smooth, moist feeling she was seeking from her new curls. Plus, she noticed that a lot of products didn’t contain much of the so-called ‘natural’ ingredients that they sold her on.
“I was going to the store, buying all the natural beauty products and I just didn’t like the way they felt,” Williams said. “Honestly, I felt deceived. For instance, they will say it’s a honey conditioner and I’m spending 16 or 17 dollars on a honey conditioner, but when I look at the ingredients, I see that honey is at the bottom of the list. So I thought, ‘Is my hair even getting the benefits of honey?’”
The integrity of the ingredients is one of the biggest things that set Nature’s Little Secret apart from its competitors. When it comes to the names of ingredients of a product, what you see, is what you get. Take her Coconut Milk Strengthening Deep Conditioner for example. The first ingredient? While the brand boasts an entire line of products, Nature’s Little Secret’s best-selling product is their Fenugreek Pre Poo. The herb-infused treatment promises to cut wash day in half by making hair easier to detangle even the most stubborn tangles.

Williams says if she can’t figure out how to make a product naturally, they simply won’t carry it.
“I am very passionate about our ingredients. A lot of people have been asking for me to do a styling gel, but until I can find an ingredient that makes a hard gel that’s natural, I won’t make one.”
