Former President Barack Obama is in talks with Netflix for a production deal that will focus on telling stories about uplifting Americans. The deal which has yet to be finalized was reported by the New York Times. Not many details are known at this moment but Barack and Michelle would produce a series of shows for Netflix. Netflix has more than 117 million subscribers which will give the Obamas a major platform and a huge audience. They will be able to promote positive Black programming, all coming after the success of Black Panther. The programming will focus on stories that inspire the Obamas and are important to them.
Netflix has also recently given a $100 million production deal to Shonda Rhimes and convinced her to leave ABC after 15 years. She is known for television dramas Scandal, How to Get Away With Murder and Grey’s Anatomy.
The Obamas would be the biggest names to hit ever Netflix as they are prepared to spend about $8 billion on original content in 2018, $10 billion in 2019 and $12 billion in 2020.
