In this digital age of clicks and views, a new subscription box service is here to bring books back into focus. Noir Reads, a monthly subscription box featuring Black authors, launched last month and the company has its sights set on creating a global community of readers, one shipment at a time. “Our aim was to create a resource comprised of narratives on the black experience and the multiplicity of Blackness,†founder Zellie Imani told The Huffington Post. For Imani and co-founder Derick Brewer, the service is about more than just selling books. They believe collective reading is a key component in building community.  In addition to the books that are mailed out each month, each Noir Reads subscription includes a reading guide and access to an online book club forum. “I think one of the things that a lot of us wish we had was a local book club,†the 32-year-old told the Atlanta Black Star. “But a lot of us, sometimes, cannot find people who enjoy the same topics we do and the Internet is a perfect medium for people to dialogue about and have a discourse with each other.†Each month’s box includes titles that match the month’s theme. The inaugural box’s theme is “From Black Lives Matter to Black Liberation,†and will contain books by Angela Davis and Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor. Subscriptions are priced at $35 per month or $100 every three months. Visit Noir Reads and subscribe at www.noir-reads.com. ]]>
