For Black folks, using shea butter on our skin is a routine and tradition that goes back as far as ancient Africa. Here in the diaspora, Black-owned skin company Niik Products says they started the recent trend of creating shea butters souffles and now they want you to try some products from the OG of shea.
Niik Products are pioneers in the natural skincare arena and, according to Mays, have inspired many other brands. The company is best known for its Cacao Shea Skin Souffle, a rich, ultra-nourishing multi-action skin souffle, especially concentrated for the night. The souffle is formulated to leave skin feeling super hydrated firmer and significantly reduces the look of lines, fights dry skin, dark marks, and prevents stretch marks. The brand offers a vegan alternative to the Cacao Shea Skin Souffle with its Citrus Coconut Skin Souffle. The Citrus Coconut Skin Souffle is formulated for Oily Skin Types but boasts the same benefits as the original.
In addition to the souffle’s, Niik Products also offers other products, like their Love Affair Oil for Hair & Skin and the Rosemary & Orange Conditioner. Love Affair Oil for Hair & Skin is nut-free and made with exotic oils like jasmine, arnica, rose, tea tree, chamomile, cinnamon, clove, sage, bergamot, and ylang-ylang.
Their Rosemary & Orange Conditioner is a 100% vegan conditioning treatment developed for hair types 3a-4c, transitioning from chemically treated hair (relaxed or bleached). All Niik Products formulas are made in-house at their manufacturing warehouse in Albany, GA, and can be bought online or in-store at the flagship store in Albany. The brand also sells its products wholesale for those who are interested.
The brand was founded in 2009 by Niik Mays, a lifelong skincare enthusiast. Mays started the company simply because it is something she loves, and she knew she always wanted to work for herself.
“I always knew I was going to be an entrepreneur, so I just did something I was familiar with,” Mays said.
In addition to their products, Niik Products provides other services like their classes on how to make natural and effective skincare products. They give back to the community through their youth organization, and the company also maintains a restaurant, spa, and children’s museum, all located in Albany, GA.
