Breaking News

The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, died Thursday morning at 9:50 A.M. local time in the comfort of her Detroit home surrounded by loved ones. Her publicist stated that she was surrounded by many friends who are now mourning her the loss.

Cause

Franklin was placed on hospice care earlier this week and was released back to her home where it was determined that her state of health was grave. Although Franklin denied the allegations that she had developed pancreatic cancer, her failing health was a result of her disease. Franklin’s oncologist, Dr. Philip Phillips of the Barbara Ann Karmanos Institute in Detroit confirmed that her cancer contributed to the deterioration of her health.

Legacy

Aretha Franklin touched countless lives with her music. From the time she was a child singing in her father’s church in Detroit, to the time she retired from touring in 2017, she made a great impact. Having won 18 Grammy Awards out of 44 nominations is only one testament to the mark she left on the world. Ms. Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, will be sincerely missed as her family, friends, and fans mourn the loss.   Aretha Franklin, Queen of Soul, Black music, Black history

Editor’s Notes

In reporting any sort of news, I try to remain as unbiased as possible. With an event like this, however, I find it extremely difficult to do that. The music world has lost so many giants in the past several years. As a music enthusiast, I am saddened by the fact that the Queen of Soul is no longer with us in this life. When I wrote about Franklin’s grave state earlier this week, I knew that this article would shortly follow. I was not looking forward to writing it.
