This December Rap Snacks will release its first ever vegan chip line, in partnership with another Atlanta-based food brand, Slutty Vegan. The new vegan line of chips will be distributed to 100,000 stores nationwide and will be made available in two flavors. This partnership is an amazing display of two Black owned companies combining their brands, energy and creativity to go much further, much faster.

Rap Snacks was founded in 1994 by Philadelphia native, James Lindsay. Lindsay managed to grow Rap Snacks into a $5 million business, mostly selling $0.25 bags of chips. Not bad. Lindsay has gone on to work with a number of major brands and entertainers, establishing himself as a major force in marketing. Founded by Pinky Cole, Slutty Vegan began operating in August 2018 as a food truck, becoming something very close to an overnight success. Shortly after opening, Slutty Vegan had lines up to five hours! Cole opened her first brick-and-mortar in January of 2019 and now plans to open an additional two locations in the near future.

This new venture will not only be profitable for both companies but will also help introduce veganism to many urban communities. It is no secret that Black communities suffer disproportionately from poor health outcomes. Health outcomes are, of course, inextricably linked to nutrition, diet and overall consumption. Vegan chips may very well serve as a great introduction to healthier snacking, eating and ultimately, a healthier lifestyle. This new partnership is an exciting example of how making a profit can be profitable, for all parties involved.
