We love it when celebs shine a light on Black-owned businesses. But when a Black celebrity is an enthusiastic fan of a Black-owned brand, we can’t help but want to throw a few items in the cart to see what all the hype is about.
Recently, the Haitian coffee company Caribbrew was featured in Gabrielle Union’s Amazon Gift Guide. Union raved about one of the brand’s skincare products, the 2-n-1 Coconut Rum Body Butter and Coffee Scrub, and she also expressed her love for the company’s commitment to its mission of highlighting Haitian coffee, tea, and chocolate and reviving a once-thriving industry on the island.
“When you need a jolt, there is nothing like Haitian coffee, and Caribbrew is the answer,” Union said, also mentioning Caribbrew’s impressive commitment to a 100% Black-owned supply chain and working with small-scale farmers.
Caribbrew is a coffee, tea, and chocolate company that offers customers premium products sourced and produced in Haiti. The company has been in business for over three years and was founded by Haitian immigrant Beverly Malbranche.
Since the colonial era, Haitian coffee has had many fans, but the Haitian people have not always been the primary benefactor of the industry’s success. That is why Caribbrew was founded — to bring the coffee industry back to the people. Caribbrew’s business model is direct trade, meaning the brand has direct relationships with its farmers who produce their coffee and other products. This model ensures that the framers get a better income because it cuts out the “middle man.” Caribbrew’s supply chain is 100% Black-owned, from the farmers to the packaging and branding.
Malbranche initially got the idea to start the company after seeing that her family always brought back coffee from Haiti as gifts for their friends here in the states. This holiday season, she wants that tradition to continue among Black families all across America with Caribbrew. The brand has a variety of products to choose from, like Haitian coffees, chocolates, or teas. Caribbrew also offers a gift basket that includes all of the brand’s popular items: coffee, chocolate, and skincare.
The brand’s line of all-natural skincare products are made from the same coffee and cacao beans as their coffee and cacao nibs. So you can rest assured that what you’re putting on your body is just as high-quality as what you’re putting in your body.
“We want people to know that giving our coffee as a gift is like giving a gift to everyone in the supply chain,” Malbranche emphasized.
